MEDIA GUIDELINES
Within the ultra distance community there is a debate as to whether or not the mere presence of a media crew, photographer, or other spectators, provides a material advantage to the rider, even if this is unsolicited.
We consider that a blanket ban on filming or photography would leave this format of ultra distance racing in the dark, limiting the quantity and quality of inspiring content for others.
To keep the spirit of a self-supported FKT attempt fair, safe, and authentic, we ask all media crews, photographers and spectators to follow these guidelines.
No Support Provided
Media crews, photographers and spectators are strictly prohibited from providing any form of assistance, supplies or logistical support to the rider.
Interaction with the Rider
Media crews, photographers and spectators must not interact or converse with the rider during the attempt in a way that provides any informational advantage, including but not restricted to: routing tips, potential re-supply locations, weather forecasts, repair advice etc.
Maintain Inconspicuous Presence
Media crews, photographers and spectators should position and present themselves so that their location and activities are as unobtrusive as possible, both to the rider and to other users of the route. They should not obstruct the route in any way, or display banners, flags or placards.
No Riding Alongside
Media crews, photographers and spectators may not cycle or drive alongside, in front of, or behind the rider at any point during the attempt.
